about

A good friend gave me a tulip bulb from Amsterdam. I planted it and that was the last I saw of it. Later I heard on the radio that about 90% of bulbs from this source never grow. Subsequently my friend gave me some doughnut peaches which, like so much supermarket fruit these days, went mouldy before they ripened. I added daffodils to make a 3 verse poem and Hugh added the music..

lyrics

The daffodils you gave me Never opened, Stood looking at the ceiling With their blind snakes' eyes, Turned brown And died. Thank you. The peaches that you gave me Never ripened,
Sat thoughtless in the fruit dish With their furry skin, Turned blue and brown And died. Thank you. The tulip that you gave me Never flowered, Lay buried in the garden In its onion skin, Turned mushy brown And died. Thank you. Goodbye.
